Miniroos teams

Miniroos is grassroots football for children aged 5 and 11 years old.

We field multiple teams for all age groups girls and boys. Training sessions are once week, ensuring that children have fun, are engaged, and are learning fundamental football skills in a relaxed and friendly environment.  Games are held on Sunday mornings around Geelong and Surf Coast regions commencing April through to September and require parent volunteers to coach and referee games.

Our Rangers coaches for this age group all have a Working with Children Check and are supported in their coaching journey by following the Football Australia curriculum and supported by our Rangers Football Co-ordinator. Our coaches are focused on instilling in our young players a love for the game. It is not about spending hours doing drills, it is about playing with friends, being part of a team and having fun while learning to love the world wide game and staying active.

Our teams have grown every year, we field multiple teams in all age groups and we continue to be the club of choice for families due to our family-friendly culture. Our canteen provides wonderful meals once a week and refreshments/snacks are always available. Parents are required to remain at the club during their child’s session and are encouraged to use the club rooms. Miniroo’s in the Geelong Region is run by the Geelong Regional Football Committee – the local sub-branch of Football Victoria.

Junior community League

Junior or Youth football teams are for players aged from 12 – 17 years old. We field multiple teams for all age groups girls and boys. Training sessions are twice a week and are focused on skill development, fitness, tactical and technical play as the kids transition from Miniroo small pitches through to 1/2 size and full size pitch.  Games are held on Sunday around Geelong and Surf Coast regions commencing April through to September. Junior Community League is a pathway to our Metro teams.

These age groups are grouped by skill level and are categorised in 3 levels. Joeys – Beginner/Basic skills, Wallabies – developing skills in all key area’s and Kangas – strong/advanced fundamental skills playing the game. Our Rangers coaches for this age group all have a Working with Children Check and are supported in their coaching journey by following the Football Australia curriculum and supported by our Rangers Football Co-ordinator. Our coaches are focused on instilling technical skills based on the FFV curriculum ensuring a fun and positive playing environment is maintained. Like Miniroo’s, training is not about spending hours doing drills, it is about playing with friends, being part of a team, have discipline to focus, follow instructions, abide by the rules and honing football skills to become a quality player whilst having a respectful and positive attitude on and off the pitch.

Like Miniroo’s, football in the Geelong Region for Community teams is run by the Geelong Regional Football Committee – the local sub-branch of Football Victoria. Official FV referee’s are provided for this age group however parents are required to volunteer to ‘run the lines’ for offside violations.  Rangers provide training and support to all our coaches and parent volunteers about the rules of the game including offside.

Junior Metro League

Junior or Youth football teams are for players aged from 12 – 17 years old.  Typically Geelong Rangers will submit a Junior Metro A division team girls and boys. When we have identified a surplus of very skilled players, we will also submit a Junior Metro B team. Games are held on Sunday and may also be scheduled on a Saturday in the Geelong & Western Region.

Players wanting to play in the Metro league are required to trial each year.  These are generally held around late October early November. Our Junior Metro League is for players who are very skilled, need a higher level of competition, have a strong sense of awareness, position/game play and presence on the pitch.  Players in the Junior Metro League have a desire to be more disciplined and want to become the best player on pitch paying attention to the technical details of the game and skills required.

Metro teams train twice a week at a high intensity by experienced and or qualified coaches.  It is expected that players attend all pre and training sessions which leads into the season commencing in April.  All coaches have a Working with Children’s check and adapt their training plan sessions to meet the needs of the players and the team to develop a strong squad ensuring they meet the FV minimum standards.

Junior Metro League is run by Football Victoria. Official referee’s are supplied, parents are required to manage ‘off side’ violations and run the lines. For more information visit FV website > Home | Football Victoria

Our Metro teams are filled however if you child wishes to play please contact juniors@geelongrangersfc.com

Senior and Reserves

We field Senior, Reserves women and men and a Sunday League (community) men’s teams which provides opportunity pathways for our up coming and age appropriate juniors.  Games are held on Saturday (female) and Sunday in the North to Western region of Victoria.  Our Results continue to see our female and male teams be offered positions in the top 3 State League divisions over the past few years.

Unlike many other clubs, Rangers do not ‘buy’ the best players into our teams so we can win.  Here at Rangers we are proud to promote and develop juniors into our senior squads as a priority providing them a true football pathway for their development and this in turn promotes our positive culture and long standing players and members.  We also welcome players players from all over the state/interstate who align with our culture and values.

Our coaches have a great depth of experience and are supported by our very experienced Senior Technical Director.  These teams typically train 3 times a week in a disciplined and competitive environment and enjoy a team meal at the canteen on a weekly basis.

Our Sunday League team provides an alternative pathway for players not quite ready to participate in Seniors or Reserves competition.  This team trains twice a week and focuses on maintaining fitness, skill and camaraderie.
